Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Amish Mushroom Chicken

Here is a simple, tried-and-true recipe for Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Amish Mushroom Chicken.

It’s a classic comfort dish that comes together with minimal effort and results in incredibly tender chicken smothered in a rich, creamy mushroom sauce.

 🥘 Ingredients

The beauty of this recipe is its short ingredient list. The most common version uses these four items:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts** (about 2 lbs)

1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup (classic, not low-fat)

1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix

8 oz sliced fresh button mushrooms

Note: Some variations swap the onion soup mix for a packet of dry ranch seasoning, and others use two cans of cream of mushroom soup for extra gravy.

 Directions

1.  Prepare the Pot: Lightly coat the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick spray for easier cleanup.

2.  Layer the Chicken:Place the chicken breasts in an even layer on the bottom of the slow cooker.

3.  Add the Soup and Seasoning: Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over the chicken. Then, spoon the condensed cream of mushroom soup over the top and spread it to mostly cover the chicken.

4.  Top with Mushrooms: Scatter the sliced mushrooms over everything.

5.  Cook Low and Slow: Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is very tender and cooked through. (Some sources suggest cooking on low for up to 8 hours).

6.  Serve:Once done, gently spoon some of the sauce and mushrooms over the chicken before serving. If you like, you can shred or break the chicken into large pieces right in the cooker.

Tips & Variations

For Extra Sauce: If you love plenty of gravy for noodles or potatoes, simply add a second can of cream of mushroom soup.

Use Chicken Thighs: Boneless, skinless chicken thighs work beautifully in this recipe and stay especially juicy. They are a great, budget-friendly alternative.

Avoid Overcooking: Slow cookers can vary, so check the chicken at the earlier end of the cooking time. It should be tender but still hold its shape.

Make it Creamier: For an even silkier sauce, stir in a few spoonfuls of sour cream at the very end, after turning off the heat.

Serving Suggestions:

This dish is perfect served over hot mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or fluffy white rice to soak up all that creamy sauce. A side of green beans or a crisp salad makes it a complete meal.
